| SkateSaskatoon
/ Saskatoon Figure Skating Club
is a non-profit, volunteer organization that
operates out of the A.C.T. Center. The Figure Skating Club has exclusive use of this ice surface.
Since 1928, the Saskatoon
Figure Skating Club has delivered quality learn
to skate recreational and competitive programs.
Through the years, we have become a nationally
recognized club.
We offer a wide selection of high caliber
learn to skate programs providing a solid foundation
in skating fundamentals which lend themselves
to figure skating, hockey, ringette and speed
skating.

The Saskatoon Figure Skating
Club is proud that we have produced many nationally
and internationally renowned figure skaters
through our test and competitive programs.
In Saskatchewan over 13,000 participants
take part in certified Skate Canada programs.
The Saskatoon Figure Skating Club offers
a wide variety of Skate Canada sanctioned programs.

| LEARN TO
SKATE PROGRAMS Our
learn-to-skate programs provide a solid foundation
in skating fundamentals which lend themselves
to figure skating, hockey, ringette and speed
skating.
PRESCHOOL
CANSKATE (daytime only)
Ø
A learn-to-skate program designed
for 3 to 5 year olds, which incorporates music,
games, and fun learning activities to teach
skating fundaments.
Ø
Emphasis is on FUN.
CANSKATE
Ø
CanSkate offers group lessons
in a fun and safe environment.
Ø
A learn-to-skate program for skaters
ages 3 and up.
Ø
Groups are for all skating levels;
skaters progress at their own pace and receive
badges as they master various skills.
Skaters are encouraged to enroll in 2
sessions per week but may enroll in 1 – 4 sessions.
Ø
Instruction is provided by professional
coaches, assisted by volunteer Program Assistants.
Ø
Skaters who are working on or
have passed stage 4 CanSkate are advised to
register in the Advanced CanSkate program

Skater development program for
hockey and ringette players

LEARN TO SKATE

A once a week learn-to-skate program
designed for adults.

ADVANCED CANSKATE
This program is an extension
of the CanSkate program and is designed for
skaters who are working on or have completed
their Stage 4 CanSkate.
Ø
Suggested
for Stages 4 – 7 of CanSkate program
Ø
Limited
number of skaters per session; low skater to
coach ratio.
Ø
Skaters
are encouraged to register for at least 2 sessions
per week and up to 3.
Coaching during these sessions is provided
by certified level 3 coaches.
Ø
Extra
skating options and lessons with one of our
club’s professional coaches are considered beneficial.

STARSKATE
JUNIOR and INTERMEDIATE
This program is designed
to give skaters the flexibility they may require.
Ø
Appropriate
for skaters working at the pre-preliminary and
preliminary levels.
Ø
This
program consists of a group session plus
additional ice options of the skater’s choice.
Ø
Skaters
need to arrange for private, semi-private or
mini-group lessons with one of the Club’s professional
skating coaches
Ø
Skaters
may register for additional options if desired.

STARSKATE SENIOR
AND COMPETITIVE SKATERS
The
STARSkate Senior and COMPETIVE programs are
open to skaters who have the appropriate Free
Skate test levels as noted below.
Skaters are grouped according to their
test level, age, size and maturity.

STARSkate
Senior and Competitive programs consist of ice
option times of the skater’s choice.
Ø
Skaters
need to arrange for private lessons with the
coach(es) of their choice.

COMPETITIVE
-Designed
for competitive skaters who have passed their
Pre-Novice, Novice, Junior or Senior Competitive test.

SYNCHRONIZED TEAM SKATING
Synchronized
Skating is a specialized branch of skating which
involves a team of skaters skating various maneuvers
and skating formations to music.
The objective of Synchronized Skating is
to have a team of skaters performing as “ONE”.
Synchronized skating is for all ages.
WHO
CAN BE ON A SYNCHRONIZED SKATING TEAM?
Any skater who has passed
Stage 4 CanSkate, taken Learn-to-Synchro and/or
has a background in singles skating may join
a synchronized team.
CANSYNCHRO
(Ages 6-10)
Skaters new to synchro. Must have CanSkate level
5 or equivalent. (Advanced Canskate/Junior)
JUVENILE/PRE-NOVICE (~ ages
9 to 15)
Need synchro. skating experience or involvement
in singles skating (Pre-preliminary to Jr. Bronze)
JUNIOR (Ages 13 and up)
Need synchro. skating experience or involvement
in singles skating (Jr. Bronze and up)
MASTERS FESTIVAL (Ages 25 or
older)
Need synchronized skating experience or have
a singles skating background.
CANSYNCHRO MASTERS (Ages 18
and up)
Learn to Synchronize Skate Ideal for
skaters who have been away from skating for
a while and wish to start skating again.

ALUMNI SKATER
Skater must
be 14 years of age or older, and meet the following
criteria. Membership privileges awarded.
Ø Is a former or present member of SkateCanada
Ø Can test, but not compete.
Ø Does not skate group times
Ø May request private coaching |

AFFILIATED SKATER
Affiliated
skaters are those skaters who pay an affiliation
fee of $110.00 to register with the Saskatoon
Figure Skating Club, but train out of province. No membership privileges are awarded. |

ADULT RECREATIONAL
SKATERS
Adult
skaters are registered with Skate Canada as
members of the Saskatoon Figure Skating Club.
Skaters must be a minimum of 16 years
of age to be registered as an Adult Recreational
Skater.

STROKING
(Junior, Senior and Synchro)
This program is an all-round
stroking program. The exercises incorporated
into the stroking program will focus on edges
and turns, balance and agility, strength and
endurance as well as creative movement.
Suitability and level will
be assessed and skaters will be grouped on the
first stroking session.
Sessions during the year that the coach
is not available will be used for practice.

OPEN OPTIONS
Option times may be purchased
as a full season option. Due
to safety concerns some adjustments to groups
may have to take place.
The scheduling committee will ensure
that skill levels on options are appropriate.
Sessions will be monitored with a limited
number per session. |

DROP IN OPTIONS
Options
times may be purchased on a drop-in basis. A
sign-up sheet is located in the music room and
a skater must be signed in before
stepping on the ice for drop-in sessions.
ANYONE
ABUSING THIS PRIVILEGE WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE
THE ICE.
Please wait 5 minutes before going on
the ice to ensure that the session is not full.
Skaters will be billed and bills must be paid
in full within 30 days of receipt.
MAXIMUM
NUMBER OF SKATERS ALLOWED:
24 ON OPEN OPTIONS, GROUP SESSIONS WILL
VARY. SCHEDULING AND ICE CANCELLATIONS SUBJECT
TO CHANGE DEPENDING ON ENROLMENT.
MAKE
UP OPTION TIMES
If
an option is missed for a legitimate reason,
the skater may make up this time during an ‘open
option’ session.
The sign-in sheet must be signed by the
skater indicating the time missed and the time
skated in replacement. Please wait 5 minutes
before going on the ice to ensure that the session
is not full. |
